“The aim of this book is to reconsider the theme of Piper, abandoned since ’67, revisited in archphoto2.0_Radical City and in the eponymous exhibition I curated in 2012 at the State Archives of Turin, as part of the Architecture Festival, where a specific section was dedicated to the Pipers.With Radical Pipers, I resume and conclude my radical research following Beyond Environment (2013-2015), conducted together with Amit Wolf, on the relationship between environment-art-architecture, between Italy and America. There is therefore a need to emphasize how the only architecture, expression of the neo-avant-garde, has been the discotheque.” The book includes unpublished archival materials such as Ugo Mulas’s photographs for the boutique Altre Cose, along with the Bang Bang disco that Ugo La Pietra created in Milan in 1969; documents from Piper in Rome, which paved the way for radical Pipers like Mach2 by Superstudio and Space Electronic by 9999. The texts are by Tommaso Trini, Pierre Restany, Marco Ornella, Bruno Orlandoni, and Fabrizio Violante.

“L’obiettivo di questo libro è riconsiderare il tema del Piper, abbandonato dal ’67, ripreso nel numero di archphoto2.0_Radical City e nella mostra omonima che ho curato nel 2012 all’Archivio di Stato di Torino, nell’ambito del Festival dell’Architettura, dove proprio ai pipers era dedicata una sezione specifica. Con Radical Pipers riprendo e concludo le mie ricerche radicali dopo Beyond Environment (2013-2015), svolto insieme ad Amit Wolf,sul rapporto tra environment-arte-architettura, tra Italia e America. Vi è quindi la necessità di enfatizzare come l’unica architettura, espressione della neo-avanguardia, sia stata la discoteca”. Il libro raccoglie materiali di archivio inediti come le fotografie di Ugo Mulas per la boutique Altre Cose con annessa disco Bang Bang che Ugo La Pietra realizza a Milano nel 1969; documenti dal Piper di Roma che ha aperto la via anche ai piper dei radicals come il Mach2 dei Superstudio e lo Space Electronic dei 9999. I testi sono di Tommaso Trini, Pierre Restany, Marco Ornella, Bruno Orlandoni, Fabrizio Violante.
